The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, & Blues Dance Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...
Heads up 1: SwingBuffalo.com's first ever Anniversary Dance is in the works. SwingBuffalo.com is going to be celebrating 1 year of organizing swing activities via our online presence in Buffalo. The official Anniversary is December 5th, though the dance will be scheduled as floor availability dictates. More details next week!
Heads up 2: PittStop Lindy Exchange is November 22nd. Let's organize a group to visit Brian and Sharon and dance with our neighbors to the south!
If you weren't at Lindy Fix last Monday, you missed out on the best night of swing dancing ever in Buffalo! The joint was jumpin'. There was so much energy in the room, it was palpable. We had two totally spontaneous events: a really energetic jam circle and a charleston line, both to really awesome songs. Everyone was on fire. I personally, was so inspired, that I did like half a dozen new moves I'd never done before. Dances right after big inspiring workshops like last weekend's with Steven & Virginie usually have cats raring to go. Then the first ever Balboa Study Group session met Tuesday night and it went awesome as well. Everyone's bal significantly improved with the intensive two hour session. Let's keep it going tomorrow with 8OJ ("Eight O'Clock Jump", henceforth "8OJ" in these emails). Then on Saturday, up in Hamilton, there's the annual "Swing Out to Victory" dance at the Warplane Heritage Museum with the Toronto Allstar Band. This Sunday, we will have the fifth of our six week class at UB. Then bring it all home with Lindy Fix on Monday and get through hump day with UB's Wednesday dance. It's gettin' cold out there and there's no better way to warm up than sweating it out on the dance floor!

This is the one and only lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
