Check out the Red Hot Holiday Ball on Saturday in Rochester! It's totally free! In fact, you might leave with more than you came with. They're having a free raffle, free food, free live music and free dancing! It promises to be the BEST dance event for the holidays in the area. Zoë and I are planning on going, so if you'd like to carpool with us, we can squeeze in 3 more people. There are lots of new and exciting classes coming after the Holidays in January and they are all coordinated through SwingBuffalo.com and the organizational efforts of a number of instructors popping up in the area. Arlette and I are going to be hosting two classes at a yet to be determined location starting the end of January. One class will be Balboa II and the other is yet to be determined. Venus and Mark will be starting up a series or two and a total of 4 pairs of teachers will be teaching community-open classes at UB's North Campus: Rob & Zoë, Venus & Mark, Sam & Sylbie, and Kate & Nate will all be throwing in a round of classes to last all semester long. Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30
This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
