The 4th Annual SwingBuffalo Anniversary Dance is coming up Saturday January 14th. Our band this year is the Bar-room Buzzards, an awesome band that plays swing standards, big band tunes, and dixieland. We're going to have snacks, cake, pop, a raffle, and maybe even a game/contest. See the SwingBuffalo.com website for details. The winner of the vote for the next progressive class is Intro to Lindy Hop. We'll be starting it up the Tuesday after the Anniversary Dance. If you've found a groove with East Coast Swing and would like to learn this more versatile and dynamic dance, the one that all the inspirational dancers out there on the floor do, you can pre-register at a discount: $35 for 6 classes, which includes $4 off Lindy Fix entry. Email me to find out how to pre-register. If you register at the door, the price will be $42. As always, re-takes are free. If you've taken Intro to Lindy Hop, you can participate in the class for free (though you'll still have to pay to attend Lindy Fix). We'll cover that awesome styling that will make you stand out on the dance floor too and work on the feel of your connection so that everyone will want you as their partner! Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30
This is the one and only lindy event in Buffalo and it's located on the up-and-coming Grant Street area. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other countries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typically a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
