The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, & Blues Dance Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...
Bal 2 is off next week due to final exams (wish me luck!). Bal 2 is intermediate level, so feel free to drop in if you've taken Intro to Bal. Classes will be going through January 18th. After that, Tuesday January 25th will be available for private lessons with an instructor of your choice (reserve yours before they're scheduled up) and then the following 2 Tuesdays will be the Shim Sham with Sylbie. Starting February 15th, we've scheduled an Intermediate Lindy Hop class with Sam & Miller. Thanks everyone for your feedback on what classes you are interested in. The upcoming classes will be mentioned in this list as they approach. There are a few people planning on going to Rochacha for the free Red Hot Holiday Ball tomorrow. Ask around to see if you can snag a ride!

Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30
This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located on the up-and-coming Grant Street area. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.

Balboa first appeared as a dance around 1915 and before that was known as the original "shuffle" dance. It's hay-day was in the swing era of the 30's and 40's. It developed in the crowded ballrooms of Newport Beach on the Balboa Peninsula in California and merged with Randy Swing originating in L.A. to become what we know of today as "Bal-Swing". Bal, for short, is danced primarily to big band music and is referred to as a "dancer's dance". It's a fast & spinny dance with a close connection, yet is less taxing than "larger" dances which makes it great for dancing to fast songs and not running out of breath.

The Tranky Doo is solo jazz dance routine choreographed by Savoy Ballroom dancer Pepsi Bethel during the 1940s. It first appeared on film in the Spirit Moves documentary and features classic and challenging jazz steps like the fall-of-the-log, hallelujah rocks, and shouts. Lindy Hoppers of today still love to perform this routine! Come learn it in this two-hour workshop and add it to your jazz dance repertoire.
