Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30

This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip.  Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene.  For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s.  It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries.  Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event.  Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue.  Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun.  So bring your spirits and prepare to smile!  Beginners are not only wanted, they are required!  We need you to make this happen!

DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.

Lesson taught by Rob & Sylbie.

Lafayette Taproom & LeeRon Zydeco Announce Zydeco/Cajun Dance Partees!

Monthly Tuesday evening events bring Louisiana dance hall fun to Western New York

The Lafayette Taproom and popular area musician, LeeRon Zydeco, are teaming up to bring a series of Tuesday Zydeco/Cajun Dance Partees to Western New York. These events will include an hour of dance lessons by Esther Brill, master dance instructor at the Rochester Cajun Zydeco Network. Then LeeRon Zydeco & the Hot Tamales will take the stage to play traditional two-steps, waltzes and shuffles to add an authentic Louisiana dance hall atmosphere to the party.

The first event in the series will take place on Tuesday, January 12, from 7:30-11pm. Admission will be $5 and includes dance instruction, live band and FREE GUMBO courtesy of the Taproom. There will also be New Orleans beer specials and other surprises. The next party dates are Tuesday, February 2 and Tuesday, March 2.

People have been asking about getting a Zydeco Cajun dance scene going in the Buffalo area, says Marc Alfieri, owner of the Lafayette Taproom. Cajun dances enjoy great support in the Rochester area and we are excited about having Esther Brill as our instructor to get our own scene going here. LeeRon Zydeco adds, Even if you have never danced to a Cajun tune before, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics in a relaxed atmosphere. We encourage everyone to come out and experience the fun and enjoyment this music brings and escape the winter blues. Theres nothing like the combination of a hot Zydeco band and a dance floor full of folks having a ball

LeeRon Zydeco & the Hot Tamales will also be appearing at the Lafayette Taproom on Friday January 22 and on Fat Tuesday, February 16 from 6-9pm.

If you've made it this far, let me tell you about the things that are happening with this email list...  First, we've upgraded the maintenance of the list itself.  The list is now kept on one common server to ensure that we always have an accurate accounting of who is on the list.  Don't worry, your information is still kept private!  Second, the email has always been automatically generated by a calendar-parsing script I wrote, but over the break, I upgraded it to be able to handle the way Google stores .ics files, so now the script is google-calendar-compatible.  This has 3 major implications: 1. multiple people can edit the calendar, ensuring accurate information not depending on only 1 person.  2. We can now incorporate events maintained by other people.  Case in point, Rochester has a large community of various Lindy Hop related calendars.  I haven't incorporated those yet, but hopefully by next week, we'll have tons of events to bring you from Rochester.  3. The script can break up the event listings by organizer, type of event, etc.  It enables us, in the future, to be able to bring you only the content you want.  Plus, this means we can also generate emails for any dance group that maintains a google calendar!  And if we break up the calendars by type, we can even bring you band gigs, thanks to a script I wrote that automatically parses bands' myspace gigs calendars.  As always, you can visit SwingBuffalo.com and look at the events on the calendar page.  Consistently bringing accurate event information is what makes email lists powerful for event organizing, so we strive to keep this list as accurate as possible.  If you find any mistakes, please let us know!
