Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30

This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip.  Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene.  For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s.  It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries.  Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event.  Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue.  Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun.  So bring your spirits and prepare to smile!  Beginners are not only wanted, they are required!  We need you to make this happen!

DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.

Lesson taught by Rob & Kate.

Glenn Miller Orchestra

Mainstage Theater, Art Park, South Fourth Street, Lewiston, NY

2:00 - 4:00 Monday July 20th 2009

http://www.artpark.net/content/pages/big-band-series-glenn-miller-orchestra

The world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra makes a triumphant return to Artpark under the baton of renowned trombonist Larry O'Brien after its string of 10 consecutive annual performances came to a brief halt in 2008. Hailed by many as the \"Greatest Band of the Greatest Generation,\" the ensemble will once again swing thru the unforgettable tunes that have made Artpark's Mainstage Theater dance floor a very popular summertime destination, including \"In the Mood,\" \"String of Pearls,\" \"Chattanooga Choo Choo,\" \"Moonlight Serenade\" and \"Tuxedo Junction.\"

The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930's and '40's. A matchless string of top-selling records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts, and the drawing power at theaters, hotels, and dance pavilions built and sustained Miller's popularity before his tragic death in 1945.

Due to his popularity, the Miller Estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley, who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn's disappearance. Since then, other leaders have followed McKinley, including clarinetists Buddy DeFranco and Peanuts Huncko, tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart, trombonists Buddy Morrow and Jimmy Henderson and current bandleader Larry O'Brien.
