The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, & Blues Dance Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...
We're off to All Balboa Weekend in Cleveland tonight! Not much else going on this weekend, so get some folks together and jump in the car for the 3.5 hour drive. ABW rocks! Terrific live bands and awesome DJ's. Amazing classes and tons of people who can really bal! Here's an interesting note: the person who organizes ABW is the one who will be teaching our big workshop coming in September! Check out the info now up on Swingbuffalo.com/workshop. Registration is not yet open, but once it is, don't wait because the early bird rate will end July 31st! You won't get better Lindy and Balboa instruction without hours of driving! This week, check out Lindy Fix, Swing Schoolhouse, a Father's Day Dance with the Alex René Big Band, and not a dance-event, but danceable music: Friday Night Jook Joint at the African American Cultural Center. Zoë and I went to the last one and danced in the back. It's a great evening.

Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30
This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
Lesson taught by Rob & Kate.

One of the most exciting bands around, the Toronto All-Star Big Band revives the spirit, style and sound of 1930's and 40's - that golden age of the big bands. Armed with brilliant programming, slick choreography and witty cultural nostalgia, this vibrant cast of awesome young talent - all between the ages of 16 and 21 - has earned its position at the top of the list of presenters throughout Ontario and in the United States. The non-profit band, formed by Director Zygmunt Jedrzejek, has gained a reputation for its authentic recreation of the music that transformed Artie Shaw, Les Brown, Benny Goodman, Harry James and many others into big band icons.
At the heart of the musical matter, the Toronto All-Star Big Band provides one of the most intense and stimulating youth music programs in Canada. Behind their extraordinary entertainment, they engage cream-of-the-crop young musicians from across the Greater Toronto Area in a rigorous regime of rehearsals, workshops and a fantastic breadth of rich and skill-building performance experiences with international stars like Buddy deFranco, Eddie Daniels, Larry Elgart, Clark Terry and most recently Cleo Laine and John Dankworth and great Canadians like Peter Appleyard, Tommy Ambrose, Phil Nimmons, Oliver Jones, Ranee Lee, and the great Jackie Richardson. All of these wonderful performers have graciously shared their talents with the Toronto All-Stars.
