The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, & Blues Dance Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...
Big things are happening. SwingBuffalo is planning the largest Lindy Hop and Balboa workshop ever in Buffalo and we've invited two national champions to come and teach it! Valarie Salstrom and Davis Thurber have each won numerous national titles in both Lindy Hop and Balboa. In fact, last year Valerie took the coveted International Balboa Championship Cup and Davis placed First in 4 national competitions and 1st-5th in 12 competitions total. The dates of the workshop are yet to be solidified, but they will be taking place in mid-september, so keep an eye out! This week, I encourage you to check out Friday Night Jook Joint. It's not focussed on dancing but there's room in the back and the show's a lot of fun. There's a Father's Day dance with the Alex René Big Band on Saturday. Don't miss Lindy Fix and Swing Schoolhouse back-to-back to start your week off right. Then, gear up for our Speakeasy this month (aka "Buffalo Hop" - themed around the prohibition era).

One of the most exciting bands around, the Toronto All-Star Big Band revives the spirit, style and sound of 1930's and 40's - that golden age of the big bands. Armed with brilliant programming, slick choreography and witty cultural nostalgia, this vibrant cast of awesome young talent - all between the ages of 16 and 21 - has earned its position at the top of the list of presenters throughout Ontario and in the United States. The non-profit band, formed by Director Zygmunt Jedrzejek, has gained a reputation for its authentic recreation of the music that transformed Artie Shaw, Les Brown, Benny Goodman, Harry James and many others into big band icons.
At the heart of the musical matter, the Toronto All-Star Big Band provides one of the most intense and stimulating youth music programs in Canada. Behind their extraordinary entertainment, they engage cream-of-the-crop young musicians from across the Greater Toronto Area in a rigorous regime of rehearsals, workshops and a fantastic breadth of rich and skill-building performance experiences with international stars like Buddy deFranco, Eddie Daniels, Larry Elgart, Clark Terry and most recently Cleo Laine and John Dankworth and great Canadians like Peter Appleyard, Tommy Ambrose, Phil Nimmons, Oliver Jones, Ranee Lee, and the great Jackie Richardson. All of these wonderful performers have graciously shared their talents with the Toronto All-Stars.

Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30
This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's famous Elmwood strip. Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries. Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event. Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue. Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are required! We need you to make this happen!
DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
Lesson taught by Rob & Kate.
