Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...
A
schedule chocked full!! Tonight is
Thursday Night Swing - a progressive ECS lesson series taught by Sam. Saturday, Groove Juice Special,
Rochester's big lindy dance, resumes after a 2 month workshop hiatus. I will be DJ'ing at GJS this weekend,
so come check it out and represent Buffalo! Sunday is the Hamlin House Dance. Lindy Fix is on Monday - come get your fix! On Wednesday, Arlette and Rob's second
session of Lindy Hop and Balboa start up at Quaker Bonnet Eatery. There's limited space, so email me to
reserve a spot! The first Buffalo
Hop is next Saturday! We're gearing
up for a "Queen City Swing" (SwingBuffalo.com's new swing troupe)
rehearsal performance at Buffalo Hop!
Plus, Buffalo Hop is a benefit dance for Grassroots Gardens, so come
support the community!
So
much going on, it's dizzying! I
hope I see everyone out on the dance floor over the next two weeks. It's gonna be quite a ride.

stresses frame and connection as a basis for proper lead and follow.

This
is the one and only lindy event in Buffalo and it's located just off Buffalo's
famous Elmwood strip. Buffalo is
finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene. For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of
swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s. It went through a resurgence in the mid
to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other
coutries. Swing dances featuring
lindy are a very social event.
Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating
venue. Swing is a lifestyle based
on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun. So bring your spirits and prepare to smile! Beginners are not only wanted, they are
required! We need you to make this
happen!
DJ'd
swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella,
Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.
Lesson
taught by Rob & Arlette. Rob
is a lindy hop & balboa instructor & performer from Santa Fe, NM, where
he performed with Moving People Dance Theatre and New Mexico Swing Fix. Rob travels to many national level
workshops and has been honing his skills since 1998. Arlette is a broadly skilled & experienced lindy &
balboa instructor. She performs a
variety of dance styles and travels to many national level workshops.

Canada's
highly-acclaimed 14-member GALAXY ALL-STAR ORCHESTRA pays a dynamic tribute to
the Swing Era in a memorable stage show and music review that you can dance to.
Under the direction of Eddie Graf and Ross Wooldridge, this show recreates the
excitement, feel and sounds of the '40s and salutes Big Band's greatest legends
including Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Jimmy and
Tommy Dorsey, The Pied Pipers and many more!
In
addition to the multi-talented Galaxy All-Star Orchestra, this scintillating
show features a plethora of all-star performers including recording
artist/entertainer IAN JUTSUN performing Sinatra favorites; Canada's best big
band songstress ROBIN LEA singing romantic ballads; the swingin' harmonies of
the three "SISTERS OF SWING"; and THE MOONGLOWS performing Andrew
Sisters' and Pied Pipers' hits!
The
two-hour show incorporates two sections: the first spotlights Benny Goodman
(credited with starting the Swing Era and often referred to as the original
"King of Swing"), trumpet king Harry James (credited for
"discovering" Sinatra), and Glenn Miller (the most popular bandleader
of all-time). The second half features the music of Tommy Dorsey (the
"Sentimental Gentleman of Swing"), Artie Shaw (dubbed the "King
of the Clarinet"), and Les Brown, Count Basie and other big band icons.
