Subject: SwingBuffalo - Anniversary Dance THIS FRIDAY Dec. 3rd

The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, & Blues Dance Mailing List of Swing Buffalo (for Buffalo and the surrounding area)...

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  The first class of Balboa 2 was cancelled this past Tuesday due to illness.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  The first class will thus be this Tuesday and another class will be added to the schedule to make up for the missed one this week.  The Anniversary Dance is THIS Friday (not today) December 3rd and we will have a LIVE BAND!  The Tin Roof Jazz Band was discovered recently by Zoë and I and they are awesome!  They play great dixieland in a range of tempos, perfect for dancing.  This is our celebration for another awesome year of Lindy Hop & Balboa in Buffalo.  It has been our best & biggest year yet, so let's get out on the dance floor & let loose!  Let everyone know you're coming & sign up on the facebook event page:

Balboa first appeared as a dance around 1915 and before that was known as the original "shuffle" dance.  It's hay-day was in the swing era of the 30's and 40's.  It developed in the crowded ballrooms of Newport Beach on the Balboa Peninsula in California and merged with Randy Swing originating in L.A. to become what we know of today as "Bal-Swing".  Bal, for short, is danced primarily to big band music and is referred to as a "dancer's dance".  It's a fast & spinny dance with a close connection, yet is less taxing than "larger" dances which makes it great for dancing to fast songs and not running out of breath.

Beginner Jitterbug Lesson 8-8:30

This is the lindy event in Buffalo and it's located on the up-and-coming Grant Street area.  Buffalo is finally on its way to establishing a lindy scene.  For those of you who don't know, Lindy Hop is a form of swing dancing that came about in the late 20s and early 30s.  It went through a resurgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and dozens of other coutries.  Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social event.  Everyone dances with everyone, though it's not typicslly a dating venue.  Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed on fun.  So bring your spirits and prepare to smile!  Beginners are not only wanted, they are required!  We need you to make this happen!

DJ'd swing music will feature Big Band, classic swing like the Rat Pack & Ella, Blues, & other popular contemporary swing music.

Lesson taught by Nate & Sylbie.
